BDS 2018 Focuses on Opportunities in Batangas
March 02, 2018
Given this year’s theme “Rich Batangas, Bright Batangas”, the annual Batangas Development Summit (BDS) highlighted the emerging opportunities in the province in areas of business, education, and tourism. This was held last January 26 at Lima Park Hotel.
Among the topics tackled were Revisiting the Competitiveness of Batangas, Emerging Tourism in the Province, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and the Industry Perspectives in the Growth of Batangas. Professionals from different industries linked to the abovementioned topics were invited to talk and to participate in a panel discussion.
It was emphasized during the summit that the province of Batangas continues to advance and has emerged as a leading hotspot of development among local economies, alongside the Philippines’ high economic growth with a GDP of 6.7% in 2017. The National Competitiveness Index further added that Batangas placed 8th among all the provinces in the Philippines in 2017 making it a key player in lighting the way to the country’s future. The province was also part of the four provinces from CALABARZON that made it to the top 10.
The highlight of the summit was the awarding of the Key to the Province of Batangas. The award is given by Batangas Governor Hermilando Mandanas to foreign nationals and select Filipino leaders who have made significant and remarkable economic impact in the province. This recognition is a symbol of goodwill and appreciation for their support to the continuous progress of the province of Batangas. The first set of awards was given during BDS 2017. This year, the recipients are Mr. Hiroyuki Nagai, President of Taisei Electronics, Inc.; Mr. Mizoguchi Takahisa, Vice President of Epson Precision Phils., Inc.; and Mr. Ryosuke Kameyama, Factory Director of Arkray Industry, Inc.
Aside from Fastech being a proud sponsor of this year’s BDS, Fastech President Mr. Allan P. Timonera served as one of the panelists during the discussion on Industry Perspectives.
The summit was organized by FAITH Colleges and Brainsparks, the innovation and startup hub of the First Asia network.
